Dickinson's study combines biology, neurology, and fluid dynamics, earning him the nickname "The Fly Guy" from The Scientist. In 2001, Dickinson was designated a MacArthur Fellow. He is presently the director of The Dickinson Lab at the University of Washington, where he is a professor of biology.
