Michael Caines is an English chef who was born in the Devon town of Exeter. In 1994, he was promoted to Head Chef at Gidleigh Park, but soon after, he was involved in a vehicle accident and lost his entire right arm.
Gidleigh Park received a second Michelin star in 1999, and Caines was named Chef of the Year at The Catey Awards in 2001. Michael Caines Restaurants Ltd was established in 1999, and the Michael Caines Restaurant at the Bristol Marriott Royal first opened its doors in July 2003.
