Michael Brune is the executive director of Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and a founding board member of Oil Change International, a non-profit devoted to removing political obstacles to a sustainable energy transition. Brune joined RAN at the age of 26 to lead its effort to persuade Home Depot to cease selling wood from endangered forests.
Home Depot consented after a year of innovative demonstrations, celebrity campaigning, and shareholder agitation. Ultimately was named the top environmental story of 1999 by Time magazine, and it resulted in the protection of 5 million acres of British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest.
