The first big challenge Grinter faced was moving his new organization away from its parent group Black Alliance for Educational Options in 2016. His next task is far bigger: to expand high-quality education options across Tennessee starting in Memphis and Nashville.
CSE is both an advocacy group that focuses on local and state policies as well as a training ground for students parents and clergy to prep them for voter drives and testifying before government bodies. Mendell who previously served as a field organizer for the Obama campaign in 2012 is a University of Kentucky grad.
