Mellody Hobson is president of Ariel Investments, the Chicago-based investment-management company, and chairman of DreamWorks Animation. Hobson, who also serves on the boards of Estée Lauder, Starbucks, the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum, the Chicago Public Education Fund, and the Sundance Institute, is an advocate for investor education and financial literacy, contributing regularly to CBS News, The Tom Joyner Morning Show, and Black Enterprise magazine. She is a graduate of Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
Mellody is responsible for firm-wide management and strategic planning, overseeing all operations outside of research and portfolio management. Additionally, she serves as chairman of the board of trustees for Ariel Investment Trust. Beyond her work at Ariel, Mellody has become a nationally recognized voice on financial literacy and investor education.
