Melissa Harris-Lacewell is a Princeton University Associate Professor of Politics and African American Studies. Barbershops, Bibles, and BET: Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought, which won an award, is her first book (Princeton 2004). Sister Citizen: A Text For Colored Girls Who've Considered Politics When Being Strong Wasn't Enough is her latest book, which she is presently working on.
Her academic study is motivated by a desire to learn more about the problems that modern black Americans face, as well as the diverse and innovative ways in which they respond to these difficulties.
