Melissa McCarthy is an actor, comedian, writer, fashion designer, and producer from the United States. McCarthy rose to prominence after portraying Sookie St. James in the Gilmore Girls television series from 2000 to 2007. She played Dena in the ABC comedy Samantha Who? from 2007 to 2009.
McCarthy was subsequently cast as Molly Flynn on the CBS comedy Mike & Molly, for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and was nominated for two more awards in consecutive seasons.
