McGovern used to listen to her father's barbershop quartet practice in their house when she was a kid. Her elders informed her that she began singing when she was three years old and that she would occasionally sing herself to sleep with songs she heard on the radio.
She determined at the age of eight that she wanted to be a professional singer and acquired a love for a variety of genres, including jazz, show tunes, oldies, and folk music. Barbra Streisand and Dionne Warwick are two of her musical influences.
