Matthieu Ricard is a French Buddhist monk born on 15 February 1946 who resides at Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery in Nepal. He lived in the Himalayas studying with the Kangyur Rinpoche and some other great masters of that tradition and became the close student and attendant of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche until his death in 1991. Since then Dr.
Ricard has dedicated his activities to fulfilling Khyentse Rinpoche's vision. After training in biochemistry at the Institute Pasteur Matthieu Ricard left science behind to move to the Himalayas and become a Buddhist monk -- and to pursue happiness both at a basic human level and as a subject of inquiry.
