Matthew Sleeth, MD, resigned from his job as chief of the medical staff and director of the ER to devote his time to teaching, preaching, and writing on faith and the environment. He is presently assisting in the leadership of the burgeoning creation care movement. Sleeth has spoken approximately 900 times in the previous two years, from megachurches like Mars Hill in Grand Rapids and Grace Fellowship in Baltimore, to Southern Baptist churches in the Bible Belt, mosques in California, and synagogues in Boston, to promote the creation care message. On college campuses, he is in high demand, with colleges like Dartmouth, Yale, and Vanderbilt, as well as Christian schools like Wheaton, Asbury, Grove City, and Westmont, among them. He utilizes the Bible as a teaching tool in his latest book, The Gospel According to the Earth: Why the Good Book Is a Green Book (HarperOne), recounting the often radical counter-culture Bible stories that inspired his environmental journey and encouraging Christians how to get behind the causes. Sleeth is a graduate of The George Washington University School of Medicine and holds two post-doctoral fellowships, but the two most significant initials behind his moniker are M.D., which stands for My Daddy, according to him. He is the executive director of Blessed Planet, an educational organization that inspires and empowers Christian groups to become better stewards of the earth. He was the first visiting scholar in creation care at any higher-education institution.
