Yocum began his career in broadcasting in 1992 as a sports reporter and anchor for NBC stations in Orlando, Florida, and Bristol, Tennessee. He began his career as a pit reporter and Motorsports Bureau reporter for TNN (The Nashville Network) in 1995. He also appeared on "Raceday," the network's racing magazine show.
Yocum covered a variety of racing events for TNN from 1995 to 1998, including NASCAR Winston Cup, Busch Grand National, Craftsman Trucks, Busch Grand National North, ARCA, and others. During that period, he received several distinctions and prizes.
