Matt Rivitz a freelance copywriter who lives in San Francisco started the Sleeping Giants Twitter account shortly after the 2016 election. The Twitter account was created to call out companies whose advertisements were appearing on the Breitbart website a far-right nationalist website that has been called out for being misogynistic and xenophobic.
Sleeping Giants describes itself as a campaign to make bigotry and sexism less profitable. Thanks to Sleeping Giants hundreds of companies have removed their ads from Breitbart taking away one of the media company's primary sources of income. The Sleeping Giants account has expanded and is now putting pressure on Fox News shows.
