The Iranian clerics exploit the religious beliefs of over one billion Muslims in order to expand their authority and export crises and conflict beyond the country's boundaries." Women are the driving force behind growth, peace, and social justice, not just as pioneers in the equality struggle. In my opinion, the only way for humanity to overcome the evil phenomenon of reactionary outlook and fundamentalism is for women to take the lead in this global campaign and use all forms of democratic struggle to close the door on any form of appeasement or compromise with Iran's misogynous and anti-human mullahs." Regional events (particularly, the US invasion of Iraq) have paved the way for the mullahs' aggressive policies and the export of extremism and terrorism to intensify after 2003. The mullahs pushed their programs and attempted to acquire nuclear weapons and conquer Iraq by unifying their authority and intensifying persecution at home. These events altered the regional and international scene, placing enormous obligations on the Iranian Resistance and its President-elect. During this time, Maryam Rajavi started an aggressive effort to confront Iran's governing fundamentalists and advance the cause of democracy in the country. She advocated for an UN-sponsored referendum on regime change in October 2003. However, the Iranian regime retaliated with further assassinations, and the West, sadly, did not reply. The Third Alternative Maryam Rajavi suggested a third path, a clear potential for resolving the Iranian issue, which had caused worldwide worry, in a speech to the European Parliament in December 2004. “In response to the Iranian issue, two choices are frequently proposed: either make a deal with the mullahs' leadership in order to limit the crisis or progressively replace the system. In the last two decades, Western countries have adopted this approach. Alternatively, a foreign war against the mullahs, such as what happened in Iraq, may be used to depose the mullahs. No one wants to see the Iraqi experience repeated in Iran. But I've come to say today that there is a third option: Iranian people-led change and Iranian resistance. The Iranian people and Resistance would have the power and readiness to bring about such transformation if external barriers were removed. This is the only way to keep a foreign conflict at bay. Offering the mullahs concessions is not a viable option to a foreign confrontation, and it will not deter them from carrying out their nefarious plans." Leadership by Women Mrs. Rajavi feels that women are the most powerful force in Iran's democratic movement. Her faith stems from the heart of the battle. Religious fascism is based on sexism and oppression. Only forces that completely reject sexism, such as women and men who believe in and have practiced gender equality, can fight it. Iran in the Future Mrs. Rajavi declared in June 2004, in front of a crowd of more than 20,000 Iranians near Paris, that the Iranian Resistance will support a moratorium on the death sentence once Iran is free of the mullahs' oppression. During a speech at the Council of Europe in April 2006, Mrs. Rajavi detailed the Iranian Resistance's views on Iran's future in a ten-point plan in front of Liberal and Socialist political parties.
