Since her Radcliffe days of working at a Black Panther Clinic, New York City Public Health Commissioner Mary Bassett has been a health champion. She began her career as a member of the University of Zimbabwe's medical faculty, a position she held for 17 years.
Her experiences in Harare, which included the creation of one of the earliest HIV awareness campaigns, provided her with a unique perspective on addressing community health issues for New York City's varied communities.
