Marvin Menzies, the head men's basketball coach of New Mexico State University, was born on October 15, 1961. On June 29, 2007, he was selected for the role as the replacement to Reggie Theus, who had accepted the head coaching post with the NBA's Sacramento Kings the week before.
Menzies, like Theus, arrived at NMSU after two years as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville under Rick Pitino. When Menzies departed Louisville to assume the head coaching job at NMSU in 2005, he was hired by Louisville to replace Theus. Menzies' first head coaching job at a four-year university is at NMSU.
