Marvin Menzies Biography

Marvin Menzies, the head men's basketball coach of New Mexico State University, was born on October 15, 1961. On June 29, 2007, he was selected for the role as the replacement to Reggie Theus, who had accepted the head coaching post with the NBA's Sacramento Kings the week before. Menzies, like Theus, arrived at NMSU after two years as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville under Rick Pitino. When Menzies departed Louisville to assume the head coaching job at NMSU in 2005, he was hired by Louisville to replace Theus. Menzies' first head coaching job at a four-year university is at NMSU. In the 99-season (as of 2006–07) history of Aggie basketball, Menzies is the 24th individual to occupy the head coaching job. Menzies had previously worked as an assistant coach at USC, San Diego State, and Sacramento State, as well as as the head coach at Santa Monica College, before coming to Louisville. He brings 14 years of collegiate coaching experience to NMSU. Menzies graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in education from California State University, Sacramento. He is a Phi Beta Sigma fraternity member.
