Martin Savidge Biography

Martin Savidge is a CNN journalist located in the network's Atlanta headquarters. In 2011, he covered breaking news items such as the nation's greatest tornado outbreak, which swept across the Southeast, and the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear tragedy in Japan. Savidge worked for CNN from 1996 until 2004 and returned to the network in 2011. For CNN, Savidge has covered breaking news all around the world. In 2003, he provided on-the-ground coverage of the military build-up in Iraq and Kuwait, including embedding with the 7th Marines' 1st Battalion. He's covered stories from Afghanistan, Kandahar, and Bagram, where he was the first television reporter to accompany US forces on Operation Anaconda. Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Savidge covered the search and rescue effort from Ground Zero. Savidge joined NBC News in Atlanta in 2004 as a reporter, reporting for NBC Nightly News, TODAY, and MSNBC. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, he was their chief correspondent. Two Headliner Awards, two Edward R. Murrow Awards, a Peabody Award, a Dupont Award, nine local Emmy Awards, six Associated Press Awards, two United Press International Awards, and two Women in Communication Awards have been bestowed to Savidge. Savidge was voted Media Person of the Year by the National Journalism Education Association in October 2002 for his support of scholastic journalism. Savidge graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
