Marsha Ivins was born in Maryland on April 15, 1951, and is an American astronaut. Ivins worked as an aerospace engineer before becoming an astronaut. In 1985, Ivins became an astronaut. On four flights, she has logged nearly 1009 hours in space. Ivins flew into orbit for the first time on STS-32 in 1990.
A satellite was launched by the crew. In 1992, she flew on STS-46. During this trip, the first Tethered Satellite System was tested. In 1994, Ivins flew for the third time on STS-62. In 1997, Ivins flew on STS-81. The crew spent eight days docked with the Russian Mir Space Station.
