Mark is the creator of the Ubuntu Project, a prominent corporate Linux distribution that is freely accessible throughout the globe and includes both cutting-edge desktop and enterprise server editions. Mark went on to create Thawte, a business that specializes in digital certificates and Internet privacy, after studying finance and computer technology at the University of Cape Town.
He created HBD Venture Capital and The Shuttleworth Foundation after selling Thawte to VeriSign in 1999. In 2001, he moved to London and started training in Star City and Khazakstan in preparation for the First African in Space expedition. Mark went into space as part of the crew of Soyuz mission TM34 to the International Space Station in April 2002.
