Mark Sanchez Biography

Mark Sanchez is a former quarterback for the New York Jets. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) and was chosen in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Sanchez rose to popularity in 2007 as a backup quarterback at USC owing to injuries to starter quarterback John David Booty; he also became famous within the community due to his Mexican-American ancestry. In 2008, he has appointed the starter and led USC to a 12–1 record and the Rose Bowl victory against Penn State. Sanchez entered the 2009 NFL Draft and was picked by the Jets in the first round, despite the fact that USC coach Pete Carroll and many evaluators thought he was too inexperienced. Sanchez led the Jets to the AFC Championship Game, where they were defeated by the Indianapolis Colts, becoming only the fourth rookie quarterback in NFL history to win two playoff games. Sanchez led the Jets to the AFC Title Game in his second season, but they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers; he and Ben Roethlisberger are the only two quarterbacks in NFL history to reach the conference championship game in their first two seasons. On July 23, 2019, he announced his retirement from the NFL and joined ESPN as a college football commentator. On Saturdays, Sanchez will be a part of the studio broadcast, as well as appearances on College Football Live and Get Up!
