Pastor Mark Driscoll founded Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington, and is one of the most downloaded and cited preachers in the world. Real Marriage, which he co-authored with his wife Grace, became a #1 New York Times best book. His audience, which includes both fans and critics, is ideologically and culturally diverse. In 2010, Preaching magazine called him one of the 25 most influential pastors of the last 25 years, and his audio sermon podcast is consistent #1 on iTunes' Religion & Spirituality list and has been in the Top 50 of all podcasts at times. Pastor Mark was born in North Dakota and raised in Sea-Tac as the son of a union drywaller. He graduated from Highline High School in 1987 as valedictorian and got a scholarship to Washington State University's Edward R. Murrow School of Communication, where he obtained a BA in speech communication. He also has a master's degree in exegetical theology from Portland's Western Seminary. He has 16 novels to his credit. In January 2013, his 17th book, Who Do You Think You Are?, will be released. Pastor Mark and Grace established a small Bible study at their house in the Wallingford district of Seattle in 1996, when they were both 25 years old, in what was then the least churched city in the United States. Since then, the church has grown to about 13,000 members who gather regularly in 14 sites across four states: Washington, Oregon, California, and New Mexico. According to Outreach magazine's 2012 study of churches, Mars Hill is the third-fastest-growing and 28th-largest church in the country. Pastor Mark created the Resurgence, a ministry that provides resources to Christian leaders through books, blog postings, conferences, and seminars. TheResurgence.com has almost 7 million visitors each year. He also co-founded the Acts 29 church-planting network, which has helped to build over 400 churches in the United States and 13 other countries. Pastor Mark is also a co-founder of Churches Helping Churches with Pastor James MacDonald, which collected over $2.7 million to help Haitian pastors minister and offer aid to the Haitian people in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake. Over $1.7 million in medical supplies were also given by the organization to the stricken country. Driscoll has carried biblical Christianity into cultural corners previously uncharted by evangelicals, using a masterful blend of strong presentation, clear biblical teaching, and compassion for those who are hurting the most—in particular, women who are victims of sexual and physical abuse and assault. The same year that he talked at a Gospel Coalition conference with prominent modern theologians like John Piper and Tim Keller, he also appeared on Loveline with Dr. Drew, The View, Fox & Friends, and Piers Morgan to address biblical sexuality.
