Mark D. Smith, M.D., M.B.A.Speaker and Booking Agent Information

Smith, a board-certified internist, is a member of the clinical staff of the University of California, San Francisco, and an attending physician at San Francisco General Hospital's Positive Health Program (for AIDS care).

He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine and named Chair of the Committee on the "Learning Healthcare System in America." Smith was Executive Vice President of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation before joining the California HealthCare Foundation.

He formerly worked at Johns Hopkins University as Associate Director of AIDS Services and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Health Policy and Management. He has served on the National Committee for Quality Assurance's Performance Measurement Committee, the National Business Group on Health's Board of Directors, and the Annals of Internal Medicine's Editorial Board.

Smith graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor's degree in Afro-American studies, a Medical Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School with a concentration in Health Care Administration.
