Marisela was born in Los Angeles and reared in Dallas before moving to New York City at the age of 19. By the age of 15, she had recorded three albums in four languages for her father (a children's music songwriter), and she had been creating music for as long as she can remember.
She studied vocal jazz at the University of North Texas for two years and understood what she wanted to do. She endured 15 RENT callbacks, 4 Aida callbacks, and vocal nodules while in NYC, and finally came to her senses about her music and began creating seriously.
