Mario Vargas Llosa, in full Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa, (conceived March 28, 1936, Arequipa, Peru), Peruvian Spanish author whose obligation to social change is clear in his books, plays, and papers. In 1990 he was a fruitless contender for the leader of Peru.
Vargas Llosa was granted the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his map-making of constructions of force and his abrasive pictures of the person's opposition, revolt, and annihilation." Since 1990 Vargas Llosa has distributed a fortnightly section in the Spanish day by day paper El Pa?s, which is reproduced in various media sources everywhere in the world.
