About Manu Bennett
Manu Bennett Biography
Manu Bennett made his professional acting debut in the adolescent drama Paradise Beach in 1993. After that, he appeared in guest appearances on Australian television shows such as Water Rats, All Saints, and Beastmaster. Bennett then featured alongside Claudia Karvan in the French firm Gaumont's miniseries The Violent Earth. Bennett took part in a theatre production in 1996. He played the title role, gamekeeper Oliver Mellors, in an open-air production of Lady Chatterley's Lover, based on D. H. Lawrence's novel, directed by Australian film/theatre director Robert Chuter, in which he met model/actor Darlene Rada Ford from Bondi Beach, who encouraged him to pursue more serious acting roles abroad. Bennett got his first main part in a feature film, Tomoko, in 1999, opposite Rumiko Koyanagi and shot on location in Tokyo. Bennett featured as Marc Antony in Xena: Warrior Princess in 2000, followed by a part opposite Anthony La Paglia in the award-winning Australian film Lantana, in which he demonstrated his dancing talents as a salsa dance teacher. Bennett returned to New Zealand in 2000 to star in the popular television drama Shortland Street, then went on to play a cop turned lawyer in Street Legal before working on the Mori Twilight Zone-styled series Mataku with his director cousin Michael Bennett, and then on Creature Quest with Richard Taylor of the Academy Award-winning firm Weta Workshop. Bennett starred with WWE wrestler John Cena and Robert Patrick in the 2006 film The Marine. Bennett appeared in The Condemned in 2007, with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vinnie Jones, as one of 10 prisoners. Bennett was cast opposite Josh Hartnett in the 2006 film 30 Days of Night as Deputy Billy Kitka. Bennett co-starred in Spartacus: Blood and Sand, a new American television series about the rebellious gladiator Spartacus, in 2010. Crixus, Champion of Capua, was portrayed by Bennett. He was the only member of the cast to appear in all three seasons of the program, as well as the prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, and he also appeared in most episodes. In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, he played the villain Azog the Defiler in 2012. Bennett was hired as Slade Wilson in the first season of Arrow in November 2012, and he was upgraded to series regular for the second season in March 2013.
