Manuel Luis Jacinto is a Canadian actor who was born in the Philippines. After a few minor roles on tv, he had his big break in 2016 as Jason Mendoza on the NBC sitcom The Good Place. In 2018, he was featured in Top Gun: Maverick, a feature film. Jacinto was born in the Philippines, in the city of Manila. When he was approximately three years old, his family immigrated to Canada, and he was reared in Richmond, British Columbia. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science in civil engineering, he pursued his passion for performance by competing in hip-hop dance contests before pursuing an acting career. After his appearances on Once Upon a Time, Supernatural, and iZombie, he was cast as triad boss Wing Lei in Chris Haddock's Canadian spy thriller The Romeo Section in 2015. He was nominated for a Leo Award for Best Supporting Performance in a Dramatic Series for the role. In 2016, Jacinto was cast in The Good Place as Jianyu Li / Jason Mendoza. Jacinto's portrayal as Mendoza, the EDM-obsessed charming doofus from Jacksonville, Florida, has earned positive critical acclaim, defying preconceptions about how Asian males are frequently depicted in Hollywood.
