Malcolm P. Baker Biography

Malcolm Baker is a Harvard Business School finance professor and the National Bureau of Economic Research's program director for corporate finance. He created a new behavioral finance option for second-year students. He currently teaches finance in the MBA program's first year as well as many executive education programs. His research focuses on the interplay between corporate financing decisions and capital market inefficiencies in the fields of behavioral finance, corporate finance, and capital markets. Professor Baker has given numerous presentations to academic and practitioner audiences and has articles published in the Annual Review of Financial Economics, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Financial. His research honors include the American Finance Association's Brattle Prize for the best corporate finance paper published in the Journal of Finance in 2002, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis' Sharpe Award in 2011, and the Financial Analysts Journal's Graham and Dodd Scroll in 2012. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Finance and the Review of Financial Studies as an associate editor. Professor Baker holds a Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard, an M.Phil. in finance from Cambridge, and a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics-economics from Brown University. He was a senior associate at Charles River Associates and a member of the US Olympic rowing team before commencing his Ph.D. studies. He is a director of research at Acadian Asset Management and a board member at TAL International.
