Mack Rutherford Biography

Mack Rutherford is the youngest person to fly solo around the world. He took off in March 2022 at age 16 and broke the world record of the youngest person to fly solo around the world aged at the age of 17. The previous youngest person was 18 when they completed their circumnavigation.

Rutherford has been flying all his life and was inspired by my sister Zara and my family. He used the opportunity to meet young people on his route who do incredible things, making a difference in their communities or even in the world. 

Rutherford is both Belgian and British but has lived his entire life in Belgium. He has known for certain he wanted to fly since he was eleven, having flown hundreds of hours with his dad, who is a professional pilot. When he was fifteen and three months, Rutherford received his microlight pilot’s license making him at the time the youngest pilot in the world.
