Lynn Scarlett Biography

Lynn Scarlett has held significant roles both inside and outside of government for over three decades as a leading thinker on environmental problems. The Nature Conservancy has promoted Lynn to Managing Director of Public Policy. She was the co-director of RFF's Center for the Management of Ecological Wealth and a senior Visiting Scholar at Resources for the Future in Washington, DC (CMEW). She works as an environmental analyst, with an emphasis on climate change adaptation, environmental risk management, green business and infrastructure, energy and water concerns, landscape-scale conservation, and science and decision-making. She spoke about climate change as a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at the University of California Bren School of Environmental Science and Management in 2009. She was the Deputy Secretary of the Interior from 2005 to 2009 when she led the Department's Climate Change Task Force. Lynn previously served as the Department's Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management, and Budget for four years. She served as President of the Reason Foundation and Director of the Reason Public Policy Institute for 15 years, focusing on environmental, land use, and natural resource problems. She served as the chair of the federal Wildland Fire Leadership Council and is a past president of Executive Women in Government. She is also a member of the National Commission on Climate and Tropical Forests. She is also a trustee emeritus of the Udall Foundation and serves on the boards of the American Hiking Society, the Continental Divide Trail Alliance, and RESOLVE (nonprofit environmental conflict resolution).
