Lucy Lippard, art critic, writer, curator, and activist, has shaped—and simultaneously deconstructed—what we identify as “art” for more than 50 years. Lippard eventually abandoned traditional art criticism after becoming a reviewer for Artforum in 1964, citing the necessity for "so-called impartiality" and a lack of touch with artists and their work as reasons.
She went on to become a significant player in the field of Minimal and Conceptual art, as well as a commentator on it. Six Years: The Dematerialization of the Art Object (1973) was cataloging and description of Conceptual art activities in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
