Her Scottish mother and Kiwi father reared her in New Zealand for part of her childhood... Lucie grew up listening to Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, James Taylor, and Roberta Flack, among other artists, who were favorites of her parents.
She began playing the piano and composing songs at the age of ten, but she wasn't introduced to the music industry until she was seventeen, when she went on the road with British singer/songwriter Judie Tzuke as a backup vocalist.
