Fitter International Inc. was founded by Louis Stack, a third-generation Calgarian. Louis graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. With a $3,000 loan, he started the firm in his basement in 1985. Fitter has since established itself as a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of simple yet effective balance and stability training devices. Fitter's FUNctional products assist users to decrease injuries, improve sports performance, and gain confidence in sports and everyday life. Fitter has several patents on innovative items that are widely utilized in the rehabilitative, sports, and fitness training industries throughout the world. From the company's corporate headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Louis manages the management team. He is active in almost every element of the company, with a particular focus on product development, worldwide sales and marketing, and capital connections. After being forced to temporarily quit skiing due to knee and foot problems, Louis started the firm as a lifelong sports lover. Louis, never one to give up lightly, continued to pursue speed-related sports, winning the Olympic Luge from 1984 to 1988 and then making the Canadian National Speed Skiing Team from 1991 to 1995. Louis attained a peak speed of 205.56 kph in Les Arc, France, throughout his five-year career. Louis also placed 19th in the 1995 World Speed Skiing Championships in Yllas, Finland. He now has a comprehensive grasp of training in a competitive sports environment at the World Cup level as a result of this experience. Louis is a published author and public speaker who has created partnerships with other experts in the fields of functional fitness, balance, professional sports, and rehabilitation. Louis appears on a regular basis in videos, radio discussion shows, and television shows. Fitter received the Alberta government's prestigious Export Achievement Award in 1989. Fitter was the very first Calgary company to collaborate with the University of Calgary as a key team player in the Strategic Thrust of Interdisciplinary Education in 1993, which included collaboration with the Industrial Design School, the Masters MBA Program, and Foothills Hospital's Research Department. Fitter has been honored by the Canadian Ski Association for excellent contributions to both the National Alpine Ski Team and the National Ski Jumping Team as an official supplier. Fitter was named to Alberta Venture Magazine's 30 Fastest Growing Companies in Alberta in 2001 and 2002, respectively. Fitter earned the prestigious Calgary Chamber of Commerce Small Business Owner Award in October 2002.
