Lou Marinoff Biography

Lou Marnioff, a Commonwealth Scholar from Canada, graduated from University College London with a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Science. He became a Lecturer in Philosophy and Moderator of Ethics at the University of British Columbia after holding research scholarships at University College and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is presently an Associate Professor and Chair of The City College of New York's Philosophy Department. Lou has 10 years of experience as a philosophical practitioner. Individuals, groups, and organizations are among his clientele. He is a founding president of the American Philosophical Practitioners Associations and a previous president of the American Society for Philosophy, Counseling, and Psychotherapy (ASPCP). He is a member of the University of Arizona's Institute for Local Government and the World Economic Forum (Davos). Lou is a regular contributor to decision theory, ethics, philosophical practice, and other academic disciplines. He is the author of Plato Not Prozac (HarperCollins, NY, 1999), a popular-level blockbuster that has been translated into twenty languages. Philosophical Practice (Academic Press, NY, 2001), his most recent work, gives a more technical insider's view of the profession. Lou's philosophical practice and pioneering initiatives have been featured in national and worldwide media. He is now working on a new popular book, Life Is Not a Disease, which will be published by Bloomsbury in English worldwide (New York and London). Lou travels the world as a lecturer and practitioner for a variety of groups and organizations, promoting a philosophical rebirth in the global village.
