Loren Roberts was born in the California town of San Luis Obispo. He played for San Luis Obispo Senior High School and Cal Poly before turning pro in 1975 when the university's NCAA golf team folded. In 1979, he won the PGA's National Assistant Club Pro Championship.
He didn't win on the PGA Tour until he was in his late thirties, but he went on to win eight times in total, earning the nickname "Boss of the Moss" for his putting prowess. In the 1995 Ryder Cup, he represented the United States. He joined the Champions Tour in 2005.
