Linda Naiman Biography

Linda Naiman is the creator of Creativity at Work, which provides coaching, training, and consulting to assist businesses improve their creativity, innovation, and leadership capabilities. Linda counsels top executives and their teams on developing creative capabilities, managing the creative process, and cultivating an innovative culture. Linda's experience as an artist and designer informs her approach to learning and development as an educator and coach: she uses arts-based techniques to inspire sources of inspiration and creative thinking to manage artistic thinking for development. Linda's expertise has been sought by the US Navy, GE, BASF, American Express, RBC, and Intel, among others. Linda's first job was as a marketing communications design consultant. She studied creativity as a technique for producing ideas as a result of a severe creative block, something she had never been taught throughout her six years of education at art and design institutions. She was, however, trained to think in a multi-disciplinary manner, and she began to investigate issues such as “What is the relationship between art and leadership?” and “What can we learn from art that we can apply to business?” In 1995, this investigation resulted in a new mission: To unleash creativity at work and transform life and work into a piece of art. Around this time, she began pioneering arts-based learning for business, and Arthur B VanGundy encouraged her to co-author an arts-based activity book for corporate trainers and facilitators: Wiley released Orchestrating Collaboration at Work: Using Music, Improv, Storytelling, and Other Arts to Improve Teamwork in 2003, and it was the first book of its type to look at the role of the arts in the workplace. Linda's work has been documented or cited in several books, including Artful Creation: Learning Tales of Arts-in-Business (Dars 2004), Art-based Approaches: A Practical Handbook to Creativity at Work (Chemi 2006), and Wake Me Up When the Data Is Over: How Organizations Use Stories to Drive Results (Wake Me Up When the Data Is Over: How Organizations Use Stories to Drive Results (Wake Me Up When the Data Is Over: How Organizations Use Stories (Silverman 2006). The Vancouver Sun, The Globe and Mail, Profitguide.com, and Canadian Business Magazine have all highlighted her. Linda was named a corporate creative leader by IBM in 2011. Linda is a graduate of the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts.
