About Linda A. Klein
Linda A. Klein Biography
Linda Klein is a senior managing shareholder of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz and the American Bar Association's immediate past president. Klein's Atlanta-based practice encompasses contract law, employment law, and professional liability, and he has considerable experience dealing with clients in the construction, higher education, and pharmaceutical industries. Klein spearheaded the ABA's efforts to increase legal services for veterans, protect government money for legal assistance for the poor, and deliver civics education through community Law Day events around the country while serving as president. She also encouraged the establishment of ABA Blueprint, an online suite of law practice management tools for solo and small-firm lawyers, and advocated for loan forgiveness for public-service lawyers. Klein was elected president of the State Bar of Georgia for the first time in June 1997. Klein created a strategy and lobbied for the state to give funds for Georgia Legal Services and Atlanta Legal Aid to recruit lawyers to assist destitute victims of domestic abuse during her term. She gathered a statewide coalition of community organizations, local and minority bar associations, and local and minority bar associations to persuade the General Assembly to fund $2 million. Since then, the annual allocations have aided thousands of Georgia residents with legal challenges involving domestic abuse. Klein was one of the first female partners in a major Georgia legal firm. She joined Gambrell & Stolz as managing partner in 2001 and managed the firm's 2007 merger with Baker Donelson, where she later became a Baker Donelson board member and Georgia controlling shareholder. From 2010 to 2012, she was head of the ABA's House of Delegates, the organization's second highest post. She has also served as head of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, the House of Delegates' Committee on Rules and Calendar, the Coalition for Justice, and ABA Day, the Association's Congressional outreach initiative. Klein was also a member of the ABA Section of International Law Council and a columnist for Law Practice Management Magazine, as well as a member of the Board of Editors. Klein received the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award from the American Bar Association in 2004. Southface Energy Institute and the Buckhead Coalition are two of her other community initiatives. Klein earned the State Bar of Georgia's highest accolade, the Distinguished Service Award, in June. Klein was recognized by the YWCA Academy of Women Achievers in 2009 and received the Randolph Thrower Award for Lifetime Achievement from the State Bar of Georgia. Klein is included in "The Best Lawyers in America," "Who's Who in America," and "Chambers USA" as a member of the American Law Institute. She is consistently ranked to Georgia's top 100 lawyers by "Super Lawyers," a distinction given upon only nine women in 2014. She is also consistently ranked one of Georgia's top 50 female lawyers by "Super Lawyers." She was designated one of the 100 most prominent and influential Georgians by "Georgia Trend Magazine" in 1998. Klein received her J.D. from Virginia's Washington & Lee Law School and her B.A. from Union College in New York.
