Philippe Viennet and André Manoukian found Foly in 1984 and offered to compose for her and record a demo. After a lot of hard work, she came in Paris in 1987 and met Fabrice Nataf, the artistic director and patron of Virgin France, who gave her the opportunity to start her career.
In 1986, she changed her name to Liane Foly, after Dal, who stated in advertising at the time that he was "crazy about chocolate." Her debut album, The Man I Love, was released in 1988 and was supported by the Ca VA, ça vient single. It was a commercial hit, reaching number 50 on the charts.
