Lhakpa Sherpa, born in a Himalayan cave near Makalu, Nepal, is a pioneering Sherpa mountaineer and a resilient single mother of three. Raised in a yak-herding family with 11 siblings, she had no formal education but built remarkable endurance trekking high-altitude paths.
In 2000, she became the first Nepali woman to summit Mount Everest and survive the descent as part of the Nepali Women’s Millennium Expedition. Defying cultural barriers, she holds the record for the most Everest summits by a woman, having reached the peak 10 times by 2022, often alongside her family.
