Leonardo Boff was born on December 14, 1938, in Concórdia, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He entered the Franciscan Order in 1959 and was appointed a Catholic minister in 1964. He spent the next years reading for a doctorate in theology and philosophy at the University of Munich, which he got in 1970.
Boff is a Brazilian scholar, writer, and philosopher, known for his dynamic help for liberation philosophy. Currently, he fills in as Professor Emeritus of Ethics, Philosophy of Religion, and Ecology at the Rio de Janeiro State University. In 2001, he got the Right Livelihood Award for "his rousing bits of knowledge and down to earth work to assist individuals with understanding the connections between human spirituality, social equity, and ecological stewardship."
