Mr. Lopate interviews celebrities and moderates his ongoing panel series, "Comparing Notes," at the 92nd Street Y, one of New York's most prominent cultural institutions. He's also spoken at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Queens College, the New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library, the Alliance Francaise, and the New School, as well as organizing a series of literary conversations for the worldwide writer's group PEN. Mr. Lopate began his career in radio late in life. He studied under Ad Reinhardt and Mark Rothko as a serious painter and worked in advertising for fifteen years.
