Bruce Greenwood was born in Noranda, Quebec, and spent his early years there before relocating to Princeton, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and eventually Vancouver, British Columbia, at the age of eleven. Greenwood studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the University of British Columbia. Following graduation, he appeared in supporting roles in the feature films Bear Island (1980) and First Blood (1982).
