Lawrence Hoffman began his career with the New York City Police Department in 1984. He was assigned to the Brooklyn North Task Force and the 94th Precinct. He spent eight years patrolling the streets of Brooklyn before being assigned to the Auto Larceny Unit and the Dignitary Protection Unit.
Lawrence was then assigned to the Brooklyn North Tactical Narcotics Teams (TNT), later renamed Street Narcotics and Guns (SNAG), where he was promoted to Detective. He was frequently able to turn simple street arrests and firearm investigations into large cases, and he collaborated with Federal Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, as well as Firearms (ATF).
