Laurie Hickson-Smith is known as the southern belle of Trading Spaces, but she is also a design grande dame. Hickson-charisma Smith's elegance, as well as her elegant and varied creations, have wowed the show's audience. On the show's debut episode in 2000, Laurie was seen alongside designer Frank Bielec and carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor.
Hickson-Smith recognized her interest of art and architecture after working in behind-the-scenes television for many years. She studied interior design at the New York School of Interior Design and received her diploma in 1999. She started working at an interior design business in Jackson, Mississippi, and the contact from Trading Spaces came shortly after.
