Laura Calder is an author and the host of the Food Network Canada show French Food at Home, which was recorded in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is now running on the network. She was born in the town of Long Reach in the province of New Brunswick. She quit her office job in Toronto, Ontario to follow her goal of becoming a chef. She relocated across the nation to study in Vancouver, British Columbia. After getting a job working with wine in California, she became interested in French cuisine. After that, she met Anne Willan at a food writers' conference, who invited her to travel to Paris to work on a book about wine and food, which she did for seven years. Laura fell in love with French cuisine during this period. Calder is the author of the cookbook French Food at Home, which was initially published in January 2003 by HarperCollins Canada.
