About Lance Burton

Lance Burton Biography

Lance Burton's accomplishment is a classic example of American success. His exposure to the field of magic began before his sixth birthday when his mother took him to a Christmas party where magician Harry Collins was the featured act. Lance ran up onto the stage as he called for a volunteer. The maestro performed The Miser's Dream, in which he (apparently) plucked silver dollars from his befuddled, impressionable assistant's ear. What a fantastic way to generate money and meet new people, Lance thought. The hook had been set. He understood what he wanted in life from that point on, and nothing would stop him. The path to ultimate worldwide prominence was both gradual and constant. Hearing about Lance's new interest, a neighbor sent him a book called Magic Made Easy, which her now-grown children had used. It featured ten techniques, which Lance quickly mastered and demonstrated to his neighbors. The entry payment was five cents for each person. The child's fervor and tenacity were not overlooked by others around him. Harry Collins, who had previously wowed Lance, was a full-time professional magician in Kentucky. He saw the little boy's undivided attention to his wizardry act. Lance was in his adolescence when Harry became his mentor. The dice cast by this group shaped a future magic star's classical schooling. Lance learned the principles and methods of sleight-of-hand, as well as the proper way to handle playing cards, under this experienced and sensible instruction. Lance spent a significant amount of his studies honing his deception skills. Lance has been dubbed "A Magician's Magician" for his outstanding grasp of the trade. Lance Burton won first place in his first competition as a young magician at a conference in 1977. His growth as a performer was beginning to show. His classmates proceeded to congratulate him. Lance Burton won the coveted Gold Medal for Excellence from the International Brotherhood of Magicians for the first time in 1980, just after his 20th birthday. Lance felt it was time to leave his hometown and go to Southern California. Bill and Milt Larsen signed him up for their annual It's Magic performance right away, and utilized their connections to have him exposed to the rest of America on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Lance Burton's one appearance cemented his place in the annals of magic. The offers for the new star flooded in. Lance made the smart decision to take an eight-week tryout at the famous Folies Bergere in Las Vegas. His contract was extended for nine years, breaking all previous records. Lance decided to put his professional career on the line and asked his boss if he could take a week off to compete in the F.I.S.M. (Fédération Internationale Société de Magie) competition in Lausanne, Switzerland. On July 10, 1982, he honored his nation by winning the Grande Prix, which acknowledged him as a World Champion Magician. Lance Burton was the first American to receive the award, as well as the youngest. His star rose higher and higher. Lance returned to The Tonight Show nine more times with Johnny Carson, for a total of ten appearances, and has appeared five more times with Jay Leno as the host. The most talented magician of this century, according to Dai Vernon, the internationally recognized Patriarch of Magic. The Academy of Magical Arts twice named him Magician of the Year. He was privileged to perform in Washington, D.C. for President Ronald Reagan (during his term) and Mrs. Reagan. After a Royal Command Performance at London's legendary Palladium Theatre, it was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Produced, produced, and created his own show, which premiered in mid-1991 at the Hacienda Hotel and ran for five years to sold-out crowds. Lance Burton was awarded the distinction of receiving the Mantle of Magic from Master Magician Lee Grabel on May 12, 1994, making him the newest member of what has been dubbed "The Royal Dynasty of Magic." This distinction has been passed down in an uninterrupted line from Kellar to Thurston in 1908, to Dante in 1936, to Lee Grabel in 1955, and finally to Lance Burton in 1994, who is now entrusted with taking his classically planned work boldly into the twenty-first century! Lance Burton signed a deal with the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino on August 11, 1994, to star in, produce, and create a new and extravagant version of his already-famous magic performance, which debuted on June 21, 1996. This 13-year contract is the longest legal contract ever offered to a performer in the history of Las Vegas. Apart from the financial conditions, which are considerable, the greatest honor of all was having a $27 million theatre named after him built just for him and customized to his specifications. Lance Burton received the first Blackstone Theatre Award for achievement in the arts in 1998. Lance Burton just finished his fourth television spectacular, which will be broadcast throughout the world, as well as a new television special starring young magicians. His specials run on FOX Family Channel and throughout the world on a regular basis. He appears on talk shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn on a regular basis. In November of 1999, the Louisville native made a triumphant return to his hometown, performing five performances at the 2,000-seat Kentucky Center for the Arts. In 1999 and 2000, he played at the Cerritos Center for the Arts in California, where he sold out the $70 million venues. Lance Burton has been awarded Best Magician and Best Entertainer in virtually every survey. For his efforts to community causes, he was named Favorite Male Las Vegan in the R-1999 J's Editor's Poll. The Shriners, The Variety Club, and New Vista Ranch, in particular.
