Lance Blockley Biography

Lance Blockley is a Director of Edgar, Dunn & Company, an international financial services consulting firm based in the United States. He has over 25 years of senior management and consulting experience in the United Kingdom, the United States, Asia, and Australia. He was the architect of the firm's renowned Slice & Dice diagnostic tool and pioneered the use of data to back marketing strategy formulation and market segmentation. Lance's specialty is assisting customers in achieving the desired business outcomes, whether in financial services, telecommunications, consumer, or industrial products. Lance has guided strategic planning sessions for management teams and boards of directors from a variety of companies in Asia-Pacific. Lance became a Non-Executive Director of the New South Wales Grains Board (NSWGB) in 1999 after assignments examining market potential. He is credited for seeing management's improper manipulation of the organization's financial statements, which led to the prior Managing Director's resignation. He took on the post of Interim Managing Director at the request of his fellow Directors during a critical and difficult period for the NSWGB. In September 2000, he sent the case to the ICAC, which issued a report in August 2003 recommending the criminal prosecution of three former managers. He negotiated an extra 5 years of vesting rights with the NSW Government and subsequently sold these rights (along with the NSWGB business) to another industry participant. Lance has spoken to a variety of groups on the corporate governance and whistleblower problems surrounding the NSWGB case, including the AICD Annual Convention since it contains important lessons for directors and anybody pursuing such a position. Lance graduated from Cambridge University in England with a B.A. and M.A. in Natural Sciences, as well as an M.B.A. from IMD in Switzerland. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors as well as the Chartered Management Institute in the United Kingdom.
