Lamb Of God Biography

Originally known as Burn the Priest, the Richmond, Virginia-based Lamb of God decided to change their name following the release of their self-titled debut in 1998. The newly renamed Lamb of God, which included vocalist Randy Blythe, guitarists Mark Morton and Will Adler, bassist John Campbell, and drummer Chris Adler, debuted in 2000 with their acclaimed New American Gospel album. The band then went on a lengthy tour, trying to spend much of the next 2 years preaching their pure American death metal at both major heavy metal festivals as well as small clubs. Working on a follow-up project with producer and Strapping Young Lad mastermind Devin Townsend in between many road trips resulted in Lamb of God's sophomore LP, As the Palaces Burn, being released in summer 2003. In 2004, it was quickly followed by Ashes of the Wake. It was produced by Machine and showcased the band's most fully realised material to date. Ashes was a chart and critical success for Lamb of God, launching them into a year of successful touring. (Epic also reissued the original band's 1998 debut, Burn the Priest.) The Killadelphia DVD was released in 2005, documenting an especially ferocious run of shows in Philadelphia, and the same program's audio edition was released near the end of the same year. Wrath was released in 2009, after Sacrament in 2006. Epic released Hourglass: The Anthology, a massive three-disc retrospective, in 2010, covering their independent releases as well as their major-label years, and including a 3rd disc of rarities. The set was available in two formats: three single-disc volumes or a complete box set. The band toured in 2010 before settling down in 2011 to record new material with producer Josh Wilbur. The result was their 7th studio album, Resolution, released in 2012.
