Originally known as Burn the Priest, the Richmond, Virginia-based Lamb of God decided to change their name following the release of their self-titled debut in 1998. The newly renamed Lamb of God, which included vocalist Randy Blythe, guitarists Mark Morton and Will Adler, bassist John Campbell, and drummer Chris Adler, debuted in 2000 with their acclaimed New American Gospel album.
The band then went on a lengthy tour, trying to spend much of the next 2 years preaching their pure American death metal at both major heavy metal festivals as well as small clubs.
