Black guy with trans experience Kylar W. Broadus has made significant contributions to the cause as an attorney, longtime activist, public speaker, author, and educator. For his contributions to the LGBT and Trans movements, Broadus has a global reputation. He has spoken on various issues that affect LGBTQ+ people and the legislation that is being passed around the country that targets transgender youngsters. In December 2021, Broadus joined the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Board of Directors as a board member. Broadus received the Spirit of Justice Award from GLAD on October 21, 2021, in recognition of his corpus of work. On March 28, 2019, the City Attorney's Office of Los Angeles issued a Proclamation in his honor. In 2019, the LGBT Bar Association of Los Angeles presented him with the Trans Trailblazer Award. He received the 2018 Gentleman of Excellence Award from the Gentlemen's Foundation of Atlanta. For Pride Month in 2018, Mastercard featured Broadus. In 2018, the Brooklyn, New York, Prosecuting Attorney's Office of King's County honored him for his achievements in the legal community. He was recognized by Liberty Mutual at the 2017 GLAAD Awards for his more than 30 years of service to the cause. Additionally, the District Attorney's Office for the City of New York, County of Kings, presented him with a Certificate of Legal Excellence in 2017. Broadus was named one of "25 Legal Advocates Fighting for Trans Rights" by The Advocate. It was an honor for Broadus to join President Obama in signing the Executive Order in 2014 that added safeguards for millions of employees. He was included in Out Magazine's 2013 list of the Out 100. He is the first openly transgender American to speak in favor of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act before the US Senate in 2012. At the Trans faith of Color Conference, the Freedom Center of Social Justice presented Broadus with the Pioneer Award. The Trans Persons of Color Coalition, the only national group devoted to the civil rights of transgender people of color, is run by him as its founder and director. Broadus serves on the National Black Justice Coalition's board and formerly served as its chairman for three years. He sits on the boards of both C.L. Barnhouse CO. and Mary's House For Older Adults. He just resigned from the board of directors of Freedom For All Americans. Broadus served on the LGBT Advisory Task Force Committee for the DC Mayor. These are the most recent boards on which he currently participates or has previously served. Broadus attended the Democratic National Convention in 2012 as the first Black transgender delegate and one of thirteen transgender delegates. He also had the distinction of being chosen for the Rules Committee at the Convention. a founder of the first organization of its sort, the Transgender Law and Policy Institute. In the Missouri city of Columbia, he served as vice-chair of the human rights commission. At the municipal, state, and federal levels, he has had the chance to draught laws and provide evidence. Several significant contributions to the Employment Nondiscrimination Act and the Matthew Shephard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Act. He has provided advice on several litigated legal matters and has participated in the LGBTQ attorneys' forum on litigation. He has worked at the intersections of various causes, including those involving race, women's rights, and disability, in addition to the LGBTQ+ movement. These are only a few of Broadus' accomplishments. In addition to his legal work and activism, Mr. Broadus spent almost two decades as a professor at a historically black college and university, where he had the honor of encouraging many students to be who they were as well as many of them to pursue careers in law and politics.
