For his role in overthrowing Panamanian General Manuel Noriega, Kurt Muse received the Army's Freedom Team Salute Commendation. Muse, an Army veteran, established a bandit radio station in Panama in the 1980s, broadcasting words of freedom to Panamanians. He was apprehended and held for nine months. The Voice of Liberty radio station urged Panamanians to vote Noriega out of office.
"We implore you to vote," said one broadcast. "We can bury General Noriega's regime under a pile of ballots if we work together." The United States Military started Operation Just Cause, the liberation of Panama, twenty years ago on December 20, 1989, featuring the greatest parachute combat jump since WWII and the largest military operation since Vietnam.
