Kristen Welker is an NBC White House correspondent who has been with the network since 2011. On NBC Nightly News, she fills in for Lester Holt, and on MSNBC, she fills in for Katy Tur. Welker previously worked at ABC affiliates WLNE-TV in Providence, RI, and KRCR-TV in Redding/Chico, CA.
She began her career at NBC affiliate WCAU in Philadelphia in 2005 as a reporter and weekend anchor. She later joined NBC News as a reporter based at the NBC News West Coast Headquarters in Burbank, California, in 2010. Welker was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a white engineer dad and a black real estate agent mom.
