The Kojo Nnamdi Show, a live talk show produced by WAMU 88.5 that airs weekdays at noon, is hosted by Kojo Nnamdi. Nnamdi hosts The Politics Hour on WAMU 88.5 at noon on Fridays. According to The Washington Post, Nnamdi is "possibly the best radio interviewer in town," and he welcomes a lineup of interesting and provocative guests who offer new perspectives on current events, political issues, social policy, art, science, and other topics. The show encourages listener calls, resulting in a lively discussion about issues of importance or interest to the Washington, D.C., region. Nnamdi is a Guyana native who moved to the United States in 1968 to attend college and research civil rights movement.. He offered to host Evening Exchange, a public affairs television programme broadcast by WHUT-TV at Howard University, from 1985 to 2011. Nnamdi worked at WHUR-FM from 1973 to 1985, first as a news editor and then as news director, generating the award-winning local news programme The Daily Drum. The Library of Congress chose Nnamdi as the keynote speaker for African American History Month in 2003, and the National Council for Community Justice named him a civil rights hero in 2001. In 2005, Washingtonian magazine named him a "Washingtonian of the Year," stating, "Radio is more fun, more intimate than TV." I'm always looking for ways to ensure that people are listening to something that will help them make informed decisions about their lives. In 2007, Nnamdi was named one of "DC's Most Influential People" by DCist, a website about the Washington, D.C. area and everything that happens there. Nnamdi was also named one of the "150 Most Influential People in Washington" by Washingtonian in 2007. Nnamdi has chaired the board of the Public Access Corporation of Washington, D.C. since 1997, in addition to his hosting gig. He is also involved in Guyaid, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the well-being of children in Guyana. In 2014, he was incorporated into the D.C. chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists' Hall of Fame, and in 2018, he was inducted into the D.C. Hall of Fame Society. The Kojo Nnamdi Show has received numerous honours, including PRNDI and AP awards, and also the National Organization of Black Broadcasters Salute to Excellence prize. From 2003 to 2008, Nnamdi served on the Board of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center. For more than 20 years, he has been a proud nationalised American citizen, and his interests include cricket, Caribbean Carnival, poetry, jazz, as well as jogging.
